There is a big, big difference between organic cereal and all-natural cereal.

Unfortunately, most consumers are not aware of this and have been influenced to think that “all-natural” is the healthier option.

It isn’t.

A great example of this is Kashi.

Have you seen their commercials? Attractive people, exercising in the outdoors, talking about the virtues of a healthy lifestyle.

Well, did you know that Kashi (Kellogg’s) is facing a class action lawsuit for using hazardous substances, prescription drugs, and by-products of uranium mining in a few of their “all-natural” products. Read more »

If you’ve been reading the news lately, you know that the Obama administration lost $535 million dollars on a loan to a failed solar panel company, Solyndra.

While it is totally inexcusable that we can be wasting money like this, at least the cause – solar energy – was noble. The same cannot be said for what the USDA just spent its money on.

The USDA recently announced a $500,000 grant to fund research for the development of genetically-engineered, sterile salmon. Read more »

Over the last few weeks, a group of about 50 people walked from New York City to Washington demanding that our government label genetically-modified food.

Throughout the march, many other people joined at different stages/cities and yesterday culminated in an official protest just steps outside of the White House.

Many luminaries and well-known voices in the organic movement were in Washington for the finale including Maria Rodale, whose grandfather, J.I. Rodale, started the organic movement in the U.S. in the 1940s, and Vandana Shiva (below), one of the world’s leading environmentalists and an absolute hero in India. Read more »

This past Saturday, I found out about an incredibly important piece of news regarding the organic food industry when I attended the Right2Know March in Brooklyn.

Andrew Kimbrell, the Executive Director of The Center for Food Safety, got on stage and announced that a petition was filed (PDF) with the FDA on behalf of hundreds of organic food groups and companies that would require genetically-modified foods be labeled.

This petition is huge, huge news. Why? Read more »

I cannot tell you how it good it makes me feel to know that Dr. Mehmet Oz, a very influential voice in the medical world, is tackling the dangers that lurk in our food supply and raising awareness about this very serious issue.

Recently, Dr. Oz heard about high levels of arsenic in apple juice and decided to perform his own independent testing on 5 major brands.

What is important to note here is that the EPA has a legally allowable limit of arsenic in drinking water, 10 parts per billion, while there is no arsenic limit for apple juice.

The following are the results of Dr. Oz’s testing and of these, 10 samples came back higher than the arsenic limit allowed in drinking water. Read more »

This is an incredibly important case and could set a massive precedent in the food industry regarding GMOs.

Well, the good news continues.

A new class action lawsuit has been filed, this time against Kashi and its parent company Kellogg’s. The reason?

Kashi’s GoLean and TLC products are marketed as “all-natural” and state that they contain “nothing artificial” when, in fact, they are “composed almost entirely of synthetic and unnaturally processed ingredients”, so says the lawsuit.

But wait, it gets worse. MUCH WORSE. Read more »

Earlier this year, I wrote a post about the important differences between “natural” and “organic”, and that “natural” really means nothing since it doesn’t have any strict regulations like we have with “organic”.

Making matters worse is that our government does absolutely nothing to crack down on the rampant abuse of the word “natural”.

As a result, major food companies aggressively push this marketing term onto consumers and try to coax them into thinking that “natural” means something healthy.

(Believe me, they are having tremendous success. People tell me all of the time that what they eat is “all-natural”, hoping to impress me. It doesn’t work.)

Well, this abuse might be coming to an end sometime very soon, and it is has nothing to do with the efforts of the people from the FTC, FDA or USDA.

It has everything to do with a major class-action litigation law firm, Milberg LLP, who sees the rights of consumers being violated by major corporate food companies.

THE LAWSUIT

Milberg LLP, a serious player when it comes to class action lawsuits, is suing ConAgra because it has been selling a line of Wesson Oils and advertising them as “100% Natural” on the labels. Read more »
