For those of us who truly care about health, we eat organic food, we drink purified water, we exercise, we meditate, we do yoga, we have a positive attitude, we use clean personal care products and the list goes on and on and on.

But arguably the most important aspect of staying healthy is something that nearly all people ignore – breathing clean air.

Here are the startling facts:

– We spend approximately 90% of our lives indoors.

– According to the EPA, the air quality indoors is 2-5 times worse than it is outside.

And if you have children with allergies or asthma, clean air inside becomes even more critical.

– The World Health Organization said that air pollution is more harmful than passive smoking!

– Ultrafine particles, which HEPA machines cannot filter out, are linked to lung cancer, heart disease and stroke. The U.S. EPA even warns about the dangers of ultrafine particles.

Indoor air contains many chemicals, gases, synthetics and pollutants that did not exist 10 to 15 years ago.

The truth is that if you are not taking action to breathe clean air, a very important aspect of your health is being ignored.

Even if you are living in a place like rural Vermont, where the air is pristine, your indoor environment may still be polluted.

And if you are living in a city, like I do, then your indoor air is almost guaranteed to be polluted.

In 2003, I was alerted to these startling facts about air quality and got my very first air purifier. And it was one of the best decisions that I ever have made.

HEPA AIR MACHINES ARE NOT THE BEST

So, the natural question becomes, which air purifier should you get?

If you do a lot of research on the Internet, you will read that HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) air purifiers are the best. However, after speaking to air quality experts, I would NEVER get a HEPA machine.

Why?

Not only do they not remove all particulates and dangerous microorganisms, HEPA machines only trap viruses and bacteria. That is fine in the beginning but over time, these viruses and bacteria accumulate in the air machine and multiply (breed).

That is why a kill zone on an air purifier is absolutely essential if you want to have the cleanest air possible.

WHY I USE AN INTELLIPURE?

As I mentioned above, I bought my first air purifier in 2003 from a New York-based company called Healthway and have been using their machines ever since.

The company’s air filtration machines are used in world-class hospitals, such as The Cleveland Clinic, and in top hotel chains, such as The Ritz Carlton.

Interestingly enough, when I was staying at the Hyatt Hotel in Baltimore during last year’s Natural Products Expo East, there was a Healthway machine in the room!

The Healthway machine that I am currently using, which sits in my apartment and runs 24/7 for only pennies a day, is called the Intellipure.

Here are a few reasons why I am so confident in this product.

– 40x more efficient than HEPA filters and is the only system to effectively address all three pollutant categories – microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses ), volatile organic compounds (from paint and furniture) and microscopic particles (which have been linked to cardiovascular disease, strokes and cancer. See here, here and here.).

– The patented DFS (Disinfecting Filtration System) technology is proven to remove 99.99% of all harmful viruses, fungi, molds, bacteria and particles as small as .007 micron in size. This is the kill zone where bacteria and fungi are not trapped but are killed.

By contrast, HEPA filters are 0.3 micron in size, which allows many more particulates and fungi to pass through.

The Intellipure is the only air cleaner developed to capture up to 100% of these ultrafine particles — see the video below — which are linked to cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer.

– The heavy-duty, commercial-grade gas and odor filter eliminates most gases.

– Each machine, which is hand-crafted and assembled in the U.S., can clean a 1,000 square foot room.

– Sleek design and easy-to-use touch control system.

– Only costs about $1 per month, running it 24/7, and each filter only needs to be replaced once per year.

– Each unit is individually tested and guaranteed to provide the most efficient clean air.

Let me ask you a very important question here. The idea of these air purifiers is to remove the ultrafine particles in the air so you can breath better in the room you are in. Now I do not know about you but I do not spend my day with my air passages right next to the air purifier. I walk around the room and breathe. So this guy is standing a few feet away from the machine and showing us that the air has over 200,000 ultrafine particles in it. Then he puts the sensor right next to the machines grid and says that it is reduced or it is gone. I thought the idea of the machine was to purify the air in the room of all the ultrafine particles. How come there are so many ultrafine particles in the air only a few feet from the machines? Are the machines not working? Something is wrong here. If there are so many ultrafine particles in the room just a few feet away from the machines when there are two machines running then all this test has done is make me want to not waste money on any machine and just breathe the air as it is. Get my drift guys.

  • Hi James Max was testing the particle efficiency of the Molekule, On higher speeds the Molekule’s efficiency is actually lower than on lower speeds. Boost mode would just provide more output and not have any impact on the test we did. This was a very straightforward apples to apples approach showing that the Intellipure is considerably more efficient at capturing the smallest most dangerous lung penetrating particles over Molekule.

Output tied to efficiency gives you a cleaning impact. Molekule on the highest setting cleans 600 square feet at roughly 1.5 times an hour with a 50% efficiency. The Intellipure cleans 600 sq. ft. 6 times an hour on its highest setting at virtually 99.99 percent efficiency. Comparing apples to apples you would need 3 Molekules to do the same job as an Intellipure.

  • Mike, you are correct wehn it comes to airflow of most portables and that is one of the most siginificant advantages of the Intellipure compared to dense HEPA Ulpa filters. We are achieving greater than HEPA efficiency with half the pressure drop. Resulting in a greater cleaning impact at a lower decibel level of noise. We build several different technologies for many different companies and just recently lauched the whole hosue Intellipure air cleaner that gives you near perfect air from every vent. Here you can see the difference the whole house system makes in someones home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqHjuecrnE4

C.R. Herro is one of Americas top building scientist. The Intellipure Whole house system is the whole house air cleaner of choice for the Certified Pure Wellness offering. Our testing and that of the industry shows UV bulbs have a limited effect in duct due to the airflow velocity, shielding of particles and degradation of the bulb. When we build UV systems we have an intensity indicator built in with an airflow velocity meter that can give us real time indication of all the variables that are necessary for UV to be effective. In most cases to do the job its cost prohibitive in residential applications

  • Mike says:

I have a Dylos particle counter and I used to test the air for insurance companies when people got sick from chemicals or mold mostly. I do believe that the filters in the intepure do a better job of removing particles than other air purifiers but one must note the limitations of all air purifiers, mainly their ability to move air. This is why even after running it for an hour, if you’re walking around the room, you’ll still note 100’s of thousands of particles in the air. Air purifier just don’t move enough air to keep up with the air being kicked up. Therefore, I only use an air purifier in my bedroom at night as I sleep to ensure I am breathing dust free air for at least 8 hours a day. In a bedroom, machines like these can do the job. For the house, I run the HVAC fan in “ON” during the 16 waking hours. That fan moves over 3000 CFM and filters the larger particles 2 times an hour, keeping the air mostly free of .03 or above particles but not molds and bacteria. For that I use a UV induct system. I also perform bi monthly ozone shock treatments when nobody is home and utilize a dehumidifier to keep humidity under 30%. This keeps mold and bacteria from becoming an issue. That’s what keeps my air clean and my family healthy.

  • Eric says:

Why does the particle counter show so many particles (250k plus) in your apartment when the Intellipure is supposed to remove them all?

  • James says:

When you tested the Molekule, I do not believe you had it on “boost” which provides significantly more air power. If you did not have it on boost, your experiment lacks external and internal validity

  • John Damon Jr says:

Hi Stella! The Intellipure 468 will definitely handle these toxins as well as the dangerous ultrafine particles from vehicle exhaust! We have 3rd party testing to show we remove 99.99% of particulate matter down to .007 micron, which is 40x better than HEPA! In addition to particles, we also handle VOC’s and inhibit microbial growth like mold and bacteria. This makes us and our DFS technology the only air cleaner capable of addressing all 3 pollutant categories! Thanks, JD

  • Stella says:

Hi, does intellifilter remove toxins and fumes from busy freeway traffic in my home and car from a busy freeway next door? Is there research to see which is most effective?
