These are my Top 5 Organic Food Products from Natural Products Expo West 2011.

NURTURME BABY FOOD

NurturMe is dehydrated organic baby food in powder form that you add to water, infant formula or even breast milk. It is convenient and lightweight, and the products are eco-friendly.

Very, very smart idea and I love the fact that the powder can be used for toddlers as well (put the powder into regular foods — the kids will get the nutritional benefits but won’t know it’s in there).

I was immediately impressed when I saw NurturMe.

HONEY REPUBLIC – GREEN TEA WITH LEMON

The Green Tea with Lemon from Honey Republic might have been the most innovative organic product that I saw at Expo West.

This is not a bottle of honey that you add to your tea. Nor is this a flavored bottle of honey.

Instead, it is a bottle of honey that has green tea already inside of it, so all you have to do is add hot water. Essentially, it is a flavored tea and honey product all-in-one.

BAOBAB FOODS  – BAOBAB FRUIT POWDER

The baobab fruit powder from Baobab Foods is poised to become the next big superfood. Available in both powder form and in energy bars, baobab is grown in Malawi and processed in South Africa.

Yet, it is the nutritional benefits that will most interest people. According to National Geographic, the baobab fruit has 6x more Vitamin C than oranges, 2x more calcium than milk and plenty of B vitamins, magnesium, iron, phosphorous, and antioxidants.

What is fascinating is that the powder is not freeze-dried or processed because it dehydrates naturally inside of the fruit. Amazing what nature provides for us.

CHICZA CHEWING GUM

I cannot recall ever seeing a certified organic gum until I came across Chicza at the show.

Whereas most chewing gums use artificial, petrol-based polymers as substitutes for natural chicle, Chicza does the opposite. It delivers to the market a certified organic product that uses sap from the Chicle tree in Mexico.

Chicza is eco-friendly, sustainable, helps employ many Mexicans in the Yucatan Peninsula and tastes great. The gum, which comes in both lime and mint flavors, is something that parents and dentists need to know about.

SUPERFOOD SNACKS – BRAZILIAN CHOCOLATE ECSTASY ENERGY NUGGETS

Superfood Snacks introduced its newest product, Brazilian Chocolate Ecstasy Energy Nuggets, at Expo West and the taste blew me away. It was filling, not too rich and yet very decadent.

The woman working the trade show booth gave me a bag to take home and it took me less than five minutes to devour the whole thing.

Made with mango, Incan berries, Brazil nuts, maca root, and raw cacao, this product has a ton of antioxidants and is one of the best raw food chocolate snacks that I have ever eaten.

    Hi Max,

I absolutely love your site! You have a plethora of useful tips and eye-opening information. Thanks to you I’ve made the transition of drinking water from plastic bottles to using my glass Takeya bottle. I’m so glad for this post, I’ve been looking for organic gum for quite a while. Were you able to try the 2 gum flavors – mint and lime? Do you have a preference?

    All my best,

    Wendy

      Hi Wendy,

Thanks so much for your kind words!!! I really appreciate it. And, I am SO HAPPY to hear that you have switched from plastic to glass bottles. Once you switch, you can never go back. Or, at least that has been my experience.

Gum: To be honest, I don’t remember 100% which flavor was better but I seem to recall that the lime was more interesting. Please let me know what you like better.

      Thanks so much.

      Live well,
      Max

Just what I was looking for!!!!! Organic gum!!!!! Do you know the very interesting story about chicle? — Well, during the Mexican-American war, Coronel Adams found one of his Mexican prisoners (a General) chewing that weird chicle plant. They became very good friends, and when asked about the chicle, the Mexican General told him that Mayans used it to clean their teeth. Then the war was over and Chiclets Adams was founded, but he added sugar to make it tasty but ruining its purpose… until now…
Thank you Max—it’s amazing the things I discover through livingMAXwell.
Coño, no me trajiste uno para probarlo?

    Luis
