Last Night’s Book Party in NYC for Meg Cadoux Hirshberg’s FOR BETTER OR FOR WORK

(With Gary and Meg Cadoux Hirshberg)

Last night, Inc. Magazine hosted a book party for Meg Cadoux Hirshberg’s For Better or For Work: A Survival Guide for Entrepreneurs and Their Families.

Meg Hirshberg, a fellow Brown University alum and columnist at Inc., is part of the founding family of Stonyfield, one of the iconic brands in the organic food world.

For Better or For Work gives readers an inside glimpse of the very early days at Stonyfield, the struggles that Meg and her husband Gary, Co-Founder and Chairman of Stonyfield, faced on both a professional and personal basis, and advice for entrepreneurs who work with their significant others.

I am about halfway through the book and will be doing a full review on it sometime soon. So far, however, it has been an excellent read and incredibly informative.

I’m here with Stephen McDonnell, Founder and CEO of Applegate, the leading producer of natural and organic meats and cheeses. Stephen and I have been friends on Twitter for a few years now but had never met in person until last night. Fantastic guy.

– It was really to great to see Meg’s mother, Doris, at the event, and I immediately recognized her from the pictures in the book. If it were not for Doris Cadoux and her unwavering belief as an investor in the company, there would be no Stonyfield today.

As Meg Cadoux Hirshberg writes about in For Better or For Work, Stonyfield was unprofitable for the first 9 years, and Gary would make regular calls to Doris asking her to help meet payroll.

– Some other people who attended the book party included: “Entourage” actor and new Greene Hill Food Co-op member Adrian Grenier, acclaimed restauranteur Danny Meyer, and CEO of ABC Home, Paulette Cole.

– For Better or For Work: A Survival Guide for Entrepreneurs and Their Families is available for purchase online.
