My Lunch at Rawvolution in NYC

For those people who are immersed in the raw food world, they either know of or have been to the restaurant Euphoria Loves Rawvolution in Santa Monica, CA.

This very popular raw food restaurant has great, great energy and is widely known for The Box, a prepared meal package that can be delivered throughout the country.

Due to his many customers who also reside in New York City, owner Matt Amsden opened up an outpost in the East Village last year. I stopped into Rawvolution for an organic lunch yesterday and here’s what I had.

TOMATO BASIL SOUP

My apologies because the picture does not do this soup justice at all. This tomato basil was nothing short of spectacular, and I haven’t had a better tasting soup in a long, long time. An absolutely perfect flavor combination.

The soup was made with tomatoes, coconut water, celery, lemon juice, nama shoyu, olive oil, garlic, onion, salt and basil.

MEXICAN PIZZA

The pizza was made with walnut meat, avocados, pico de gallo, and cashew sour cream (coconut water, garlic, lemon juice, salt, cashews, mustard).

I liked two things about this Mexican pizza.

1) The crust, or nori, came with this excellent dried nut cheese made from cashews and turmeric (not visible). So, it wasn’t just nori but nori with nut cheese.

2) The heaviness of the walnuts didn’t overpower the dish. The pico de gallo, dressing, and avocados gave the pizza real balance and a lot of freshness.

MACA COOKIE DOUGH BALLS

These maca cookie dough balls were rock-star good and were made with cocoa butter, coconut nectar, cacao chips, and maca.

Matt Amsden counts Susan Sarandon, Cher, and Alicia Silverstone as fans, and this does not surprise me in the least.

Just like in the West Coast location, the offerings at Rawvolution in the East Village were very impressive and NYC’s raw food lovers will not be disappointed.
