Most people recognize Foodstirs as the company that has completely transformed the organic baking category.

But with its latest move, the company will soon be known as a true trailblazer throughout the entire organic industry.

Top 5 Organic Food Products from Natural Products Expo West 2019

SHARE:

As I do after each Natural Products Expo West, I name my top picks of the show.

With 3,600 companies having booths at this year’s Expo West, not only was it a challenge to narrow down my long list of great products but actually seeing everything was extremely difficult as well. This show keeps getting bigger and bigger, and fortunately, the quality of offerings improves along with it.

Below are my Top 5 Organic Food Products from Expo West 2019 and if you’d like to read my key trends, full analysis and takeaways from the show, be sure to check out this week’s Organic Insider.

WHOLE FOOD BARS FROM BRIGHT FOODS

The most innovative product I came across all week at Expo West were the whole food bars from Bright Foods.

What makes these bars so special is they are the very first HPP, refrigerated bars on the market. And because no co-packer had ever manufactured them before, the company needed three years to figure out and perfect the process on its own.

12 Compelling Finds at Indie Beauty Expo in New York City

(Jillian Wright on the far left, Founder of Indie Beauty Expo)

Last week in New York City, I attended Indie Beauty Expo, a showcase for independent organic and natural personal care products. This was the second year of Indie Beauty Expo, and I was incredibly impressed by both the show itself and the quality of the companies that presented.

While Living Maxwell mainly deals with organic food, body care products will be an area of focus going forward. This is because 60% of whatever we put on our skin gets into our bodies. So, that means the personal care products that we use are of utmost importance.

Here were 12 of the most interesting finds at Indie Beauty Expo. Some are USDA certified organic, while others contain both organic and natural ingredients.

MACA CHOCOLATE DARK ROAST FROM TEECCINO

Teeccino founder Caroline MacDougall has been formulating organic teas for decades, and her expertise in making delicious drinks was on full display in her new Maca Chocolate Dark Roast at Expo West.

Aside from the beautiful flavor, this herbal blend contains plenty of phytonutrients from the carob, cocoa and chiles.

Yet, what makes this drink so unique is that the company is using ramón seeds (above), a food that I had never known about before.

GMO-Labeling Dinner and After-Party Fundraiser at Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore

SHARE:

With major food and chemical companies spending millions and millions of dollars to defeat GMO-labeling efforts in this country, my friend Vani Hari and I have decided to take action.

Just as we did two years ago for Prop 37 in California and last year for I-522 in Washington, the two of us will be throwing a fundraiser for Oregon and Colorado, two states that will be voting on GMO-labeling in the next few months.

Depression and Antidepressants – What They Don’t Want You to Know

SHARE:

In the summer of 2001, after being on Prozac for more than a decade, I made the life-altering decision to go off of antidepressants.

Despite what doctors and nearly everyone else around me were saying – that I had a chemical imbalance and that antidepressants were essential to keep me going – I believed otherwise. Intuitively, I knew that there was a better way to live, yet almost no one in my support system was in agreement with this line of thinking.

For the millions of people facing depression and who have similar doubts about medication being the only answer, a book has arrived that completely validates our concerns.
