Organic Black Sesame Seeds – Something You’ll Always See in My Kitchen

Organic Black Sesame Seeds - Something You'll Always See in My Kitchen

When it comes to eating, I like clean and light food. My body seems to reject heavy sauces, fried foods, and sautées, even if they are 100% organic. I like simplicity in a meal and as a result, I tend to cook a decent amount for myself. Why? Not only is cooking at home the most […]

Organic Tatsoi – This is a New One for Me

Organic Tatsoi - This is a New One for Me

When I was in my local organic market the other day browsing in the produce section, I came across a green that I had never seen before – tatsoi. It had the most beautiful green color, rich and deep, and its leaves were full-bodied and spoon-shaped. Trying to get a good picture of tatsoi was […]

When I was in my local organic market the other day browsing in the produce section, I came across a green that I had never seen before – tatsoi.

It had the most beautiful green color, rich and deep, and its leaves were full-bodied and spoon-shaped. Trying to get a good picture of tatsoi was not that easy because the vegetable was a little unruly.

While it is in the mustard family, this Chinese green was not bitter or sharp at all. In fact, it was very, very different than I thought it would taste. Read more »

Bottles of Rawtella have been staring me in the face for months already. I see them all of over NYC but never took the plunge to try it until the other day.

Normally, I am incredibly curious about any new organic product, especially one that has chocolate in it and is raw. However, it must have been the product’s association with Nutella that gave me real pause.

Yes, I may be one of the few people in the country who hasn’t tried Nutella. Aside from the fact that it is not organic, Nutella doesn’t appeal to me in the least.

If I want chocolate, I am going to eat an organic chocolate bar, buy organic chocolate ice cream or put raw cacao into a smoothie in the morning.

Clearly, I am in the minority here with never having tasted Nutella. Read more »

Organic Kaffir Limes - WOW, These are Amazing!

A while ago I did a story on gold nugget mandarins and when I saw this unknown fruit above, I couldn’t help but think of them because of the similarity of the rind. And just as I had never seen gold nugget mandarins before, the same was true with these organic kaffir limes. When I […]

A while ago I did a story on gold nugget mandarins and when I saw this unknown fruit above, I couldn’t help but think of them because of the similarity of the rind.

And just as I had never seen gold nugget mandarins before, the same was true with these organic kaffir limes.

When I started asking the woman at my local organic market about kaffir limes, she quickly asked “Do you want to try one?”

With a bit of reluctance, I said “Ok, I guess.” After all, eating limes isn’t something that I normally do. Read more »

Several months ago, I profiled the phenomenal food magazine Gastronomica and interviewed its Editor-in-Chief, Darra Goldstein, a professor at Williams College.

If you have never heard of Gastronomica but find the history and culture of food to be as fascinating as I do, it is something that you definitely want to check out.

Gastronomica comes out four times per year and while the cost per magazine is more than your average food glossy at the newsstand, the articles are absolutely first-rate.

For example, in the previous issue, Gastronomica covered a topic that many people have assumptions about but don’t really have a good answer for: Are organic food consumers/advocates Republicans or Democrats? Read more »

I am Strangely Drawn to Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar Drink

I know I have a high tolerance for healthy food that doesn’t exactly taste the best. And what are some of those foods? Well, the first thing that comes to mind is wheatgrass. I know I have a high tolerance for healthy food that doesn’t exactly taste the best.

And what are some of those foods?

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is wheatgrass. I’ve been drinking two ounces of it almost every single day for the past few months.

While getting wheatgrass down has certainly gotten easier over time, it still isn’t exactly enjoyable. Yet, I continue drinking wheatgrass because I know the health benefits are second to none.

As someone who is constantly on the prowl for new and interesting organic products, I had been well aware of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar Drink for quite a while but never bothered to try it. Why?

Not really sure. I guess the apple cider vinegar part wasn’t that appealing. Read more »

My New Favorite Organic Snack?

My New Favorite Organic Snack?

I was never a peanut butter and jelly kid growing up. In fact, it really turned me off. So, it is kind of ironic that decades later, a much healthier version of the traditional PB&J is now one of my favorite snacks.
