In many of the organic smoothies that I have written about in the past, I have either used hemp seed milk or Brazil nut milk.

For some reason, however, these nuts and seeds haven’t been going down so well lately. Why?

It probably has something to do with all of the green juice that I have been drinking – my body (my blood) appears to have become very alkaline and is rejecting these foods.

So, this morning I made a smoothie with organic tea as the base in order to change things up.

Recently, I have been playing around with smoothies using a variety of different superfoods.

Superfoods provide excellent health benefits and many of them are loaded with antioxidants.

This is particularly the case with two of the superfoods that I used this morning to make a Maca Berry Blast smoothie.

Maca comes in powder form and originates from Peru. Thousands of years old, Maca is believed to enhance your energy, stamina, and endurance. Some men claim that it also helps with the libido.

Maqui berry comes in powder form as well and is considered the highest antioxidant berry in the world. It has an ORAC score (which measures antioxidant activity) of 616. Its closest competitor, acai, has an ORAC score of 185, which is 3x less than maqui berry. Read more »

Several days a week, I make smoothies for breakfast.

For the base of the smoothies, I often use Brazil nuts or black sesame seeds to make the milk.

However, when I am in the mood for something a little lighter, I’ll substitute nuts/seeds with tea. Yes, tea.

Earlier this year, I wrote a post talking about the tremendous health benefits of black sesame seeds.

I love putting them on quinoa, millet, and on my salads, and they add a whole new dimension to whatever food that I am eating.

Since Brazil nut milk and cashew milk are two drinks that I make quite often, I started asking myself “What if I made a milk out of organic black sesame seeds?”

My immediate thought was that the taste would be too harsh or too strong, and that I would need to use a lot of honey or organic palm sugar to even it out.
