TAKE ACTION: Tell the USDA to Say "No" to Genetically-Engineered Apples.....That Don't Turn Brown

If you’re a citizen of the U.S., you know that apple pie, baseball, and July 4th day parades are just a few examples of classic Americana.

But if a biotechnology company gets its way, one of these iconic symbols will lose its purity forever and could put the health of our children at risk.

A Canadian company is close to receiving USDA approval for a genetically-engineered (GE) apple. And the most scary part about this GE-apple is that it doesn’t turn brown when sliced open, a normal part of the oxidation process. Read more »

GMO-Labeling Failed in Washington, So Now What? Here's What MUST Be Done

As you may very well be aware of right now, the organic food movement recently lost I-522, the GMO-labeling initiative in Washington State, 51% to 49%. As you may very well be aware of right now, the organic food movement recently lost I-522, the GMO-labeling initiative in Washington State, 51% to 49%.

Our opponents outspent us by approximately $22M to $8M, and from what I hear, the negative and relentless ads were absolutely pounding the airwaves, similar to what happened in last year’s California vote with Proposition 37.

I am greatly appreciative of the effort that the campaign leaders put forth and the tremendous generosity that every donor exhibited, most notably David Bronner from Dr. Bronner’s. Despite the fact that we lost, more Americans than ever know about GMOs and the importance of GMO-labeling. This fact cannot be underestimated.

Yet, the majority of politicians in Washington D.C. still do not support a federal GMO-labeling law, and the only two states that have passed GMO-labeling bills, Connecticut and Maine, have serious requirements that must be met in order for the laws to kick in. The truth is that we are nowhere close to where we need to be. Read more »

I got a call at about 8AM this morning from my good friend Karl, who lives in Miami.

It was very surprising to hear from him at that hour because we normally talk late at night. However, he had some interesting news to share – my Fox News Channel interview had made The Colbert Report.

Colbert reported on the loss of I-522, the GMO-labeling initiative in Washington State, and took serious aim at GMOs and the GMO-companies who are fighting against labeling. Read more »

European Scientists Declare “No Consensus on GMO Safety”

European Scientists Declare "No Consensus on GMO Safety"

The first thing that GMO-apologists always do is attack the credibility of people in the organic industry. They’ll go after the Organic Consumers Association or people such as Jeffrey Smith, founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, the leading source of GMO-information, and say that they lack scientific credentials to make any negative statement against […]

The first thing that GMO-apologists always do is attack the credibility of people in the organic industry.

They’ll go after the Organic Consumers Association or people such as Jeffrey Smith, founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, the leading source of GMO-information, and say that they lack scientific credentials to make any negative statement against GMOs.

However, they don’t seem to go after individuals such as Don Huber, Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology at Purdue University and among the most qualified scientists in the world to examine threats to America’s food supply. (Dr. Huber has written a letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack warning of the discovery of a new pathogen and a possible link between Roundup Ready® (GMO) corn and soybeans and severe reproductive problems in livestock as well as widespread crop failure. See videos below.) Read more »

Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com Yesterday on the Fox News Channel, I was on A Healthy You and Carol Alt talking about genetically-modified food.

Carol Alt, a supermodel who has been on over 700 magazine covers and is an author of several raw food books, hosts an amazing show dedicated to health. Much to my surprise, it seems that Fox has given her absolute free rein in terms of content for her show.

Not only has she advocated for raw milk and talked about the dangers of vaccines on her program, but she enthusiastically agreed to discuss GMOs.

And for a major television network to allow the topic of GMO-labeling to be discussed is simply amazing. Read more »

The country’s most important GMO-labeling campaign is taking place right now in Washington State, and it is called I-522.

There are a few key things about this campaign that I wanted to discuss with you.

1) Among everyone that I speak to in the industry, the general consensus is that getting GMO-labeling approved in our country will be a bottoms-up, rather than a top-down, approach.

This means that we have to win on the state level rather than have it be mandated above from the federal government. Politicians in Washington D.C. are so under the influence of lobbyists and corporations that getting any serious traction on a national level has proven to be incredibly difficult. Read more »

Recently, I saw the widely anticipated movie GMO OMG and walked away very, very impressed.

The film, about one family’s crusade to understand the disconcerting world of genetically-modified food, succeeds for two main reasons.

One, it does an excellent job of explaining the many aspects of GMOs (genetically-modified organisms) – what they are, the key arguments surrounding the GMO debate, uncovering how prevalent GMOs are in our society, detailing the serious health risks that they pose – in easy-to-understand terms.
