If you don’t know who Dr. Alejandro Junger is, remember his name. His star is on the rise, and he is making his way to becoming a household name similar to Dr. Andrew Weil.

Dr. Alejandro Junger (above) is a NYC-based cardiologist whose New York Times  best-selling book and detox program are both called CLEAN. With endorsements from Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore, Donna Karan and many others, CLEAN is gaining some serious traction.

Aside from the fact that I hear so many success stories about CLEAN, I am convinced that this program will grow for another reason. Read more »

As I am getting older, I find myself spending less and less time with my close friends. We are all very busy with work and family obligations, and many of us live in different cities.

Last night, it was fantastic to catch up with one of my best friends, David Lee, who was visiting NYC from San Francisco. He and I only get to see each other about once or twice a year since we live on opposite sides of the country.

We became great friends in high school (where he played like Tony Peña behind home plate), and he has gone on to become a major player in the technology world.

David Lee runs SV Angel, which is the premier angel investment fund in the country. He sees absolutely every single hot deal there is Silicon Valley and every tech entrepreneur is begging him for money. Read more »

If you were able to get inside of my head, you would quickly realize that I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure what I should be eating and what supplements I should be taking.

(For those people who have seen my kitchen cabinets, they know that I take A LOT of supplements and the reason I don’t take more is strictly because of financial reasons.)

When it comes to food, I am constantly researching, learning and talking to people in order to educate myself the best that I can.

Questions that always pop up include:

– Am I juicing enough?

– Am I eating enough greens? Read more »

Sadly, I am unable to celebrate Mother’s Day today with my mother Ellen (pictured here in 2004). She passed away more than five years ago from ovarian cancer.

Despite being only about 5’2″, my mother had an incredibly large presence.

Why was this? Well, there were several reasons.

She lived each day as if it were the best day of her life. There would be so many times I would hear “my sandwich was the greatest” or that she and her friends “had the best time.”

My mother truly savored every minute of life, a trait which she inherited from her father, my grandfather Max.

Her happiness and exuberance would completely transform the energy of a room.

She had a trademark laugh that could be heard from the other side of the house. Everywhere you went with her, it was just a matter of time before that laugh would come out. And everyone knew her by it. Read more »

Stonyfield recently launched a very interesting campaign called My Organic Moment.

This is where people submit videos and talk about their “organic moment” — why it is important to them, why/when they started eating it, etc.

The company asked me to submit a video a few weeks ago, and my moment talks about the importance of organic food in my decision to go off of antidepressants.

If you don’t want to submit your own video there, I’d love to have you comment below what was your “organic moment”.

Everyone has a different reason for why they are eating organic and what got them started, and I’d love to hear what each reader has to say.

A few months ago I went on a coffee date with a very wonderful woman and ever since then we have been seeing each other.

In that post and in a follow-up one, I talked about my issue with her love of an occasional glass of wine and how it was really a “me problem”.

Very surprised that the discussion of our date ended up on the Internet (hey, that’s the peril of going out with a blogger, right????), she ended up telling me that drinking wasn’t that important to her and that she would never drink in front of me, which she hasn’t — something that has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

So, we’ve been together for three months now and everything is going very, very well. We have tons of shared interests, practice yoga together and, yes, go to all of the NYC organic restaurants. She completely shares my organic lifestyle. Read more »

Last week, I was asked by a friend of mine if I ever cheat.

No, she was not asking if I ever cheat on women but rather wanted to know if I ever cheat on my diet.

While I was taken aback by the question and didn’t have an immediate answer, she followed up with “Don’t you ever eat a doughnut?”

“No, I never eat doughnuts,” I quickly responded. That was an easy one to figure out. The thought of putting a Krispy Kreme into my body never ever enters my mind.

The larger question about cheating, however, really got me thinking and this is what I came up with. Read more »
