Why I Am Using More Burdock in My Juices These Days

If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Twitter lately, you’ll know that I have been posting pictures of the fresh, organic juice that I make each morning.

One ingredient that I am starting to use more and more is organic burdock root.

Burdock is not exactly a household name but the health benefits are fantastic. And for what I am trying to achieve – to keep my liver clean and healthy – burdock is exactly what I need.

A slightly bitter root vegetable, Burdock is good for the liver and kidney, and is known as a blood purifier. Studies have also shown that is has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Because the liver is the body’s filter, it is important that I respect this very vital organ and keep it is as clean as possible.

Some of my friends often say to me “Max, how can it not be clean? You don’t put anything bad into your body? It’s impossible.”

While I do eat all organic now and live a clean lifestyle, I have not always been so kind to my body. I took nearly 11 years of Prozac, used to drink a ton of alcohol, loved to smoke Marlboro Reds, and ate all kinds of horrible (fast) food.

Furthermore, I live in New York City, where the air is very bad, and deal with environmental toxins all of the time.

So, yes, my liver is not taxed by copious amount of liquor anymore but there are still other factors which adversely impact it.

And to help deal with this, I am using burdock root.

(Make sure you check with your doctor before starting to use burdock root since some people have an adverse reaction to it or shouldn’t be eating it.)

The juicer that I use is the Green Star 1000, a truly phenomenal juicer.

While it may be more expensive than other juicers available, there is a reason for that. The quality of juice that you get and the corresponding nutritional benefits you receive are far superior.

If you’re new to juicing or want a less expensive machine to start off with, try the Breville Juice Fountain.
