My Organic Dinner at Green Planet Grocery in Syracuse, NY

This past weekend, I was in Syracuse, New York giving a speech at the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities’ Northeast Regional Conference. My talk, which was filmed and will be on my blog this week, was about my experience with antidepressants and how students have options when it comes to dealing with depression.

As I have come to learn, what we put into our body (organic food, of course, being one of them) has a major, major impact on how we feel.

While in Syracuse, I scouted out the local organic fare and had a fantastic lunch and dinner at The Green Planet Grocery. This organic market had a small raw vegan café that served phenomenal food.

Here is what I had.

NORI ROLL

The nori roll was made with avocado, carrots, sprouts, cucumber and hemp seeds. The cashew sauce was made from cashews, agave, cayenne pepper, Bragg’s liquid aminos and lemon juice.

ITALIAN PIZZA

The spices were right on target and the crust was relatively soft, something unusual for a raw pizza.

On top, the pizza had baby spinach, sun-dried tomatoes with rosemary, and kalamata olives.

The cheese was made from macadamia nuts, cashews, lemon juice and sea salt. The crust was made from sprouted buckwheat, golden and brown flax seeds and Italian herbs.

The sauce was made from sun-dried tomatoes, tomatoes, basil, oregano, red wine vinegar, jalapeños, garlic, sea salt and olive oil.

RASPBERRY CHOCOLATE DESSERT

This was one of the better raw chocolate desserts that I have had, mostly because it was rich but not too rich.

Many times raw chocolate desserts are over-the-top rich and you can only eat a few bites. That was not the case at all here, and I was ready to go back for seconds.

The filling was made with raspberries, coconut oil, yacon syrup, agave, cashews, coconut aminos and lemon juice.

The crust was made from almonds and dates, and the topping was made from agave, cacao powder and coconut oil.

Aside from having an excellent café, the actual market at Green Planet Grocery was outstanding as well.

Overall, I was very fortunate to have found such a great place to eat at while on the road traveling, and if you’re ever in Syracuse, NY, definitely stop by The Green Planet Grocery.
