Organic Sundaes at Pure Food and Wine with David Lee from SV Angel

As I am getting older, I find myself spending less and less time with my close friends. We are all very busy with work and family obligations, and many of us live in different cities.

Last night, it was fantastic to catch up with one of my best friends, David Lee, who was visiting NYC from San Francisco. He and I only get to see each other about once or twice a year since we live on opposite sides of the country.

We became great friends in high school (where he played like Tony Peña behind home plate), and he has gone on to become a major player in the technology world.

David Lee runs SV Angel, which is the premier angel investment fund in the country. He sees absolutely every single hot deal there is Silicon Valley and every tech entrepreneur is begging him for money.

He spoke yesterday at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, and we met up for dessert late last night at Pure Food and Wine.

The desserts at Pure Food and Wine are as good or better than any other restaurant in NYC. What is even more shocking is that they don’t use any dairy or any sugar.

We devoured two organic sundaes, one of which is below.

It consisted of vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream, candied almonds, cherry framboise sauce, chocolate syrup and vanilla cream. The ice cream is made from cashews and coconut meat, and the vanilla cream is made from cashews, coconut oil, agave and salt. The sweetener used in the chocolate is agave.

While it is incredibly fascinating to hear all of the stories about Silicon Valley from a true insider, it is even better just to hang out and talk about life with one my oldest and best friends.
